The Thing is a scary story about two boys that saw something terrible in a cornfield at night. This story is based on a folk tale from Nova Scotian, New Scotland, Canada, in the book "Bluenose Ghost". Two boys named Trevor and Will, they spend most of their time in the summer by a walk in the city looking for something to do.

On a hot night in August, the two boy is sitting on the border of a main road. A cornfield stretches along that path. Suddenly, Trevor caught something in those fields. Because of the darkness, he is quite hard to see what it was, but he felt the shape looks like a strange animal.

He patted his friend and pointed toward the strange figure. Will says he saw it too. He was not sure, but a mysterious figure that vaguely looks such as a human.

He knows the next, the figure has gone. Both of them craned his neck and saw the field with their eyes. From the darkness, the figure appeared again. Slowly walked to the edge of the field before disappearing back.

Trevor and Will just stared at each other, amazed.

"What was that?" Asked Will.

"I do not know." Trevor said.

Shortly after he said that, Trevor felt a moist hand on his shoulder. He turned around and found a very horrible face of the figure was staring straight in front of him. He screamed in shock and with fear. The skin is rotting from the face of the figure dropping to the ground, making the skull appear. For a moment, it just froze staring at Trevor with his black eyes. Then suddenly squeezed his arm. Trevor could feel his fingernails penetrate into the flesh when he thrashed want to escape.

Both the boy leaped the barrier and ran into the street, screaming in horror. They did not stop his run until they arrived at their home. They try to tell the parents and friends about the figure they had seen that night, but no one believed.

When Trevor was got up in the morning, the wound in his arm still made an impression. After a few days, the wound was getting worse. The infection has spread all over his arm and did not take long flesh started to rot. He was then taken to hospital but no matter what has been done by a physician, no treatment is successful. The infection continues to spread throughout the entire body. Trevor was helpless and his health began to deteriorate.

It looked like he had not saved and the day after day, he got worse and worse. His parents were poor only can sit next to his bed and wept to see his beloved son slowly decaying in front of them. On the day Trevor was eventually died, Will come to see him in the hospital. When he walked into the treatment room and look at Trevor was lying there, he startled fear. His friend indeed looks like a figure they saw yesterday.
