The Call
Horror Stories - The Call
Janet wandered through the dark house looking for her boyfriend Paul, the captain of the football team, but he was nowhere to be found. A giant crash came from the kitchen and Janet ran to it, hoping it would be Paul. When she arrived in the kitchen there was shattered glass covering the entire kitchen floor, but no sign of Paul being there. A loud ringing sound began to play throughout the house, making both Janet and I jump. We both soon realized that it was just the landline.
Janet inched closer to the landline and the tension was growing higher. Don't do it Janet, I thought, don't do it. I was biting my nails meanwhile, drowning in fear. Janet was stupid and she picked up the landline. No sound came through. Not even a soft but heavy breathing.
Than a drop of drool dripped down onto her shoulder. Her expression was disgusted as the drool trickled down her right arm. She looked up and all I could see was yellow eyes coming down on her. I screeched, throwing my popcorn in the air as the creature devoured her as she screamed her last scream. The popcorn fell into my hair, on the floor, and into the couch cushions. I hadn't even noticed because my eyes were glued to the screen. "The Call" is a great and very suspenseful movie that had my heart beating faster than ever.
Paul was on the second floor of the house and walking down the hallway when he heard Janet's last scream. He called her name but got no reply. As he began to run back towards the stairs, the upstairs landline began to ring. He found the landline eventually, thanks to the moon peeking through the window, and answered after the fourth and final ring. No one picked up. Not even heavy breathing echoed. In the moonlight peeking through the window, you could see the shadow of the creature creeping up behind Paul as he continuously said hello into the landline.
Suddenly, another loud ringing noise began to echo through the house. I jumped in fear because Paul was already on the phone until I realized it was my landline downstairs in my kitchen. I grabbed the remote and paused the movie on the creatures shadow enhancing upon Paul. I stumbled down the stairs in the dark. Even with the moon light showing the way, it was still pretty dark. I entered the kitchen and answered the landline on the fourth ring. The caller I.D. read "Neighbor Stacy".
"Hello," I announced.
"Who is this?" Stacy asked, panting.
"It's Laurel," I announced. "Your neighbor."
"Laurel! Get out of there Laurel!" Stacy shouted into the telephone line. A loud shatter came from somewhere inside my house. "Get out, you ne-" Stacy screamed and the line went dead. The sound of the dead line filled the silence, along with another noise that also sounded like glass breaking. I gulped. The landline phone was still in hand and I began to grip tighter as I left the kitchen and inched towards the stairs. I looked up the stairs and just as I was about to start up the steps. The floor boards behind me began to creek very fast and they got closer.
As I went to turn around, something pushed into me. It scratched my hand making me drop the landline phone onto the floor, where it broke into pieces. The only thing filling the silence was now a low growl and floor boards creaking coming from upstairs. I winced and pain and held my hand over the scratch. I began to pull my hand off to see how bad the scratch was and as the air caressed the wound, I gritted my teeth. My hand was drenched in blood and the crimson liquid was trickling down my wrist and onto the hard wood floor. The thing had scratched in the perfect spot. My veins. I covered the wound with my hand and looked back up the stairs.
I started up the stairs but stop when I noticed something wet was covering the steps. It was snow, and it was trailing from the open front door. I looked back up the stairs, but turned around and slammed the door shut. I locked the door knob and closed the chain lock along with it. My heart was starting to get faster. My breathing was starting to get heavier. Was the creature from "The Call" actually inside my house, I thought to myself. I decided to believe that I was going crazy and that it was probably just Stacy in my house. A drunk Stacy. This theory calmed me down and my functions began to return to normal.
"Stacy," I called up the stairs into the darkness.
I got no reply.
"Stacy," I called again, "Stacy it's me Laurel."
Still, no reply. My heart was starting to pick up again. I wasn't scared though, I was angry.
"Stacy," I demanded as I stomped up the stairs. "Stacy it's just me Laurel. Answer me! It's o-" I paused as I noticed something looking at me towards the very end of the hallway.
"Stacy..." I called one last time.
I inched closer. The thing looking at me had no eyes, it was pale white. It had long, wet, blonde hair. It's clothes were ripped to shreds. There was blood on it's clothes. I was a foot away and very far from where the moonlight was, downstairs. I couldn't quit make out what it was, but I knew that it's silence was beginning to frighten me. My heartbeat filled the house as I searched for a light switch, lamp, something with light. My hands finally found a string and when I pulled it, light filled the pitch black hallway. I turned back to the thing that was staring at me through the darkness.
My screams were louder than my heartbeat. The thing was indeed Stacy, but her hands were stuck to the wall with some sort of slime and her eyes were missing. Her skin was pail and her beautiful blonde hair was drenched in blood. Her blood. I covered my mouth as I walked away slowly, trembling in fear. My vision grew even more blurry as more tears came out. /What the hell did this?/ I thought. Since my hand was covering my mouth, my blood was making a puddle on the floor. I didn't wanna believe what I was thinking. I didn't wanna believe that this was happening. I didn't wanna end up like Stacy. My mind was filled with fear until I realized that I didn't lock drunk Stacy in my house, I locked what did this in my house.
I turned to go back for the door and bumped into the creature from the movie. I looked into it's yellow eyes and my heart stopped. It swung it's arms out and knocked over the lamp, making the hallway a dark abyss once again. I couldn't scream, move, see, breath. Not until I felt the creature shift forward. I dashed around it but it swung at me, knocking me into my parents room. I flew through the open door and hit the my parents dresser. My head began to pound in pain and the creatures roars made it worse. The room wasn't as dark as the hallway, thanks to the window letting the moon shine through.
Even in my daze I was still alert. Even in my parents bedroom, I was out in the open. I jumped up and ran for the door just as the creature was coming in. The door flew shut and I could hear and feel the creature banging into it. I quickly locked the door and ran for the window. The creature banged on the door heavily and I could hear the wooden door cracking. I tried to unlock the window just as I began to feel something trickling down the back of my neck. I assumed it was blood, but I had no time to pay it any attention. The window wouldn't budge. It was locked but my vision was way to blurry to find or feel the lock. I didn't have enough time.
A large crack was drawn upon the door as the creature began to pound harder. I paced the room trying to think of an idea of escape until I came to the realization that I could shatter the window. I grabbed the chair to my mothers vanity and began to hit the window with all I had. Tears streaked my cheeks and blood from the back of my head and my wrist was ruining my parents floor. I was beginning to get even dizzier and I was going to be out of it pretty soon but I kept trying. The door cracked even more. This motivated me more but thanks to my drowsiness my wacks began to grow softer, but a crack did form upon the window.
I was overflowing with both joy, sadness, fear, and anger. My full attention was breaking the window that I didn't even think of blocking off the door. The door broke in half and the creature was running at me in full speed. I didn't have the energy to scream, but my heart did. I dodged the creature and it fell into the window and broke the wall. The creature fell to the pavement outside but I knew I wasn't safe. In the movie, when the cops shot at the creature he died, but minutes later he was alive and dragging away yet another teen.
I ran to my room and grabbed my phone. I could barley put in my pin-number because I was so dizzy. The letters were blurry but I could make them out just enough. I went to dial and typed in nine-one-one. Just as the phone began to ring my door slammed shut. I ran to it, dropping my phone onto the couch. It wouldn't budge. It wasn't even locked. The phone rang a second time. I felt something slimy drip onto my shoulder. When I turned to look at it I noticed something in the corner of my eye. The creatures shadow was missing from the t.v. screen where I had paused it. The phone rang a third time. I felt another drop of the disgusting substance drip onto my shoulder. My eyes widened as I realized what it was. I slowly looked up. The creature came down on me and I saw the yellow of it's eyes. The phone rang a final time.
"Hello," a women announced.
